Some just will never learn

South Australian Premier Mike Rann says he will not be asking the state's Road Safety Minister to resign because of more than 30 traffic offences he received in the past.

According to the Sunday Mail, Tom Koutsantonis, 37, has been fined at least 27 times for speeding, three times for running a red light and once for using a mobile phone while driving - amounting to more than $10,000 in fines.

Mr Rann says he was aware Mr Koutsantonis had lost his licence a decade ago, but not the extent of his offending history. (And he is the Road Safety Minister!)

"I've made mistakes in the past and I accept that, and I take full responsibility for all of them - one or 31 is too many."He says his experience will help other people who break the law. (Huh? say that again Tom!)

"I think I'm in a better place to go out and sell the message that we can change our attitudes about road safety, we can change our attitudes about speeding," he said."Creeping even a little bit over the limit can cause a serious crash or accident, so I'm better placed than more than most people to go out and talk about this, being a reformed speeder."

Opposition Leader Martin Hamilton-Smith says Mr Koutsantonis has lost all credibility.
