Only in Australia

Whatever one thinks of politicians and their policies from time to time, I had to reflect today, on what a great country and great state we live in. We are the 'Lucky Country".
How many countries in the world can the Attorney General of a government (in this case Michael Atkinson) ride around his electorate on his bicycle without any minders, to call on his constituents?

We are truly blessed with our freedoms in Australia, which unfortunately so many can take for granted. Some choose to not even bother casting a vote. Yet democracy is so precious and fragile.

Whilst Mr. Atkinson has his detractors, and I for one have had the occasional word with him, one can only admire the Attorney General for his continuing contact with his electorate, and in a style that is uniquely Australian. No photo opportunities, no spin, just plain hard work.

With the cut and thrust of modern politics, it would be so easy for him to use Australia Post, but Atkinson chooses the old fashioned method. Long may it be that way and long may our Aussie irreverence continue to keep us all on our toes!
