Last year I wrote to Premier Rann about the fact no new water storages had been built in the Adelaide Hills for over 30 years. I also noted that the promised raising of Mt. Bold dam had also been scrapped.
Our state premier could not answer my letter and so passed it on to his "Water Security Minister" Karlene Maywald. Good-News-Mike knows better than defending the defenceless.
In her response to my letter, she almost spun out of control in the waffle she presented.
Karlene made much of the governments "Water for Good" program, without indicating what water-for-good actually means in any tangible way. It is just a meaningless feel-good phrase really. I have subsequently written to her, asking for clarification on the meaning, and how water-for-good will help our water supplies.
But what really stunned me in her written reply, was the paragraph where she stated that no new water storage capacity is required in the Mount Lofty Ranges until at least 2050.
If that is the case Karlene, why are we on water restrictions?
Your statement is in conflict with the facts that we are short of water now. And premier Rann wants to near double our population in the next few decades, and yet we don't need any increase in water storage?
Something just does not add up to me. The spin is getting out of control ............ and it's now showing!
