I am appalled at the wanton destruction of hundreds of trees from the city, down Port Road to the Entertainment Centre.
It has taken years for the trees to grow and mature in the west parklands and down Port Road, and now, the last of them are gone along the centre of Port Road at Thebarton.
Even some mature trees on the footpath adjacent to the brewery have now been felled.
I personally think that the tram extension could have been done with much more sensitivity to the environment.
Sure the Rann government will offer to eventually replace some of the trees. But as we all know, our drying climate and hotter summers mean that many of the new plantings will not survive anyway.
This tram extension is nothing short of vandalism of our parklands.
In a city like Adelaide, where thousands of trees died last summer, we need every tree we can keep.
The tram extension is no excuse to fell over 500 trees in it's name.
There has got to be a better way.
